実は原作には、最後にネロが天使に救われて天国へと召される……というシーンはない。

ただただ暗いだけの作品なのだ。

原作者は夫に捨てられた後、犬の保護に尽力していたが周囲に相手にされなくなり、晩年は30匹の犬に見守られて亡くなっていた。

そんな原作者の厭世観が反映された作品でしかなかった。
